During times of warm weather algae becomes a concern in all ponds especially those in direct sunlight. An untraviolet UV can be installed in-line and will help sombat this on-going problem. If you are in need of a new filtration system there are filters available with built-in UV's and backwash systems which ease regular pond maintenance.
Algaecides such as Pond Care Algae Fix, a liquid treatment, and granular formula Green Clean destroy blanket weed and string algae quickly. These chemicals are safe for your pond howeverthey deplete the oxygen level and can cause fish distress. When applying algaecides sufficient water circulation must be maintained.
