Optimum Filtering & Backwash

BioPRO is a biological filter, not mechanical, and must be positioned after a solid waste capturing filter, such as a pre-filter or skimmer. The heart of BioPRO is the Bio Cell media which after initial start-up (4-6 weeks) becomes home to colonies of “aerobic” nitrifying bacteria.

While BioPRO is not a mechanical filter, it will trap solid waste that must be flushed from the filter using the backwash feature. The key is to keep the media as free of rotting solid waste as possible and therefore routine cleaning (bi-weekly) is essential. To backwash, simply shut the pump off, switch the multi-port valve to backwash, re-start the pump and watch the solids flush from the filter.
