An ultraviolet light (UV) is as natural as sunlight. Unlike chemicals which can harm fish, plants and beneficial bacteria, UV lighting does not have a residual effect on pond water. A UV improves filtration performance by breaking down algae that creates green pond water.

For optimal effectiveness 2.5 watts UV lighting per 100 gallons of pond water is recommended.
