Description Technical Specs   Koi and other pond fish normally have a balance of electrolytes in their body. Chloride cells in the fish gills remove electrolytes (calcium, chloride, magnesium, potassium and sodium) from the pond water. The lack of electrolytes prevents pond fish of oxygen intake as well as carbon dioxide and ammonia release (osmotic shock). Pond salt provides the essential electrolytes that fish need to help reduce the risk of osmotic shock. Pond salt reduces nitrite toxicity. Overcrowding of fish and overfeeding lead to elevated nitrite levels. This generally happens in new pond environments.
