| Tetra Pond 3" bottom drain. Installed at the bottom of the pond drain device encourages waste and debris to flow into a circular collection chamber, where it is carried away underground via standard 3" PVC pipe to a disposal site. Designed for maximum efficiency, bottom drain is constructed of non toxic, fish and plant safe materials. With periodic cleaning drain should last for many years.
INSTALLATION: 1. Determine the lowest point in pond. If possible, dig out pond bottom with approximately 30 degree downward slope to create a small area where debris from water flow can collect. 2. Install necessary drainage pipes, and 3" PVC 90 degree elbow directly underneath the lowest point in the pond. Bottom drain will install onto elbow. 3. Install lower half of the bottom drain to the PVC elbow pipe with PVC cement. Important – Be sure connection is totally secure. Once this step is completed, the installed piece should be recessed at least 3/4" below pond bottom level. 4. Apply a light coating of silicone to the white gasket, affix to the lower half of drain. 5. Install pond liner. After the liner is fully installed, locate where the lower half of the bottom drain is. Using your fingers, find the six screw holes located on the rim of the gasket and bottom drain lower half. With a white pencil mark pond liner at screw hole locations. Using an awl, or other puncturing tool, punch through liner at pencil markings. Be careful that the diameter of the punched hole is not wider than the diameter of the bottom drain screw hole. 6. In the circular area directly over the drain, apply a light coating of silicone to liner. Then align screw holes on the upper half of bottom drain with the holes punched in liner, and using the 6 flathead machine screws provided attach the upper half to the lower half. Important: Studs on the rim of drain upper half should point upward. Flat surface of rim should be flush with pond liner. Do not over tighten screws! At this point liner should be firmly sandwiched between bottom drain halves. Upper half of rim should be level with pond bottom. 7. Once bottom drain halves are securely joined carefully cut away the circular portion of liner inside the drain. Be sure to trim liner flush with the inside edge of drain. Apply a light silicone coating to drain inside surface. 8. Fill drain cover dome with sand or gravel until nearly full. Cement plug into bottom of cover. 9. Align three studs on bottom of cover with studs on rim of upper half of drain and insert. Press down until sealed securely. Do not cement in place! The cover dome is meant to be removable for cleaning purposes. 10. Fill pond with enough water to completely cover drain, check drain outlet for water flow. 11. The cover dome shape is designed to force debris and water to flow into the drain inlet. Do not place plants, stones, or other objects on or near the bottom drain as this could impede proper water flow. 12. Remove cover dome periodically and inspect drain for blockage or liner tears around drain edges. Check that attachment screws remain firmly tight. |
